Happy New Year everybody!!
This is my first post of the New Year, and I thought I would tell you a little about my novel idea. It’s only fair, as that is a part of the purpose of this blog. My ultimate goal is to publish, but in order to do that I am broadening my horizons, obtaining new ideas on not only plot lines, but also in the style of writing etc.
So my novel is being written in the third person and will be written from many characters perspectives. I don’t know what it is, but I dislike writing written from the first person. It has its place, by all means, but I find it awfully biased and when incorporating many different characters and their identities I cannot delve too deep into each individual. At least not at this drafting stage.
I’ll give you a loose idea of a plot. The details aren’t concrete yet and equally likely they may change slightly so I’ll only give you a brief overview. My novel is of a fantasy setting based in something similar to medieval times, and centres around the activities of a structured criminal organisation during a period of war and unrest. This organisation has secret links to the government which is ultimately overthrown for being corrupted. The novel then concentrates on the adaptations the organisation has to make and the dangers it faces etc.
I won’t go into anymore detail than that. But at least you know what I’m working towards.
A lot of my inspiration has come from other novels, namely Game of Thrones and also the Broken Empire series, Which centres around the life of a troublesome prince with an agenda to prove he is not the boy his father thinks he is. I have also taken some inspiration from the Gaming industry. One particular game I highly regard is the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. I have played I shamelessly admit a couple of hundred hours on this game, and in particular my inspiration comes from the city called Riften.
To those that have not played the game Riften is a shady city, which you learn as soon as you arrive. The Thieves Guild reside in the sewers and it is generally plagued by misfortune. If you play the Imperial/Stormcloak war quest line war also touches the city.
I have also begun playing Assassin’s Creed, which I may find some inspiration from, but we’ll see. I shall post my thoughts on this in due course when I have advanced further in the game!
So that is my novel idea and the inspirations that lead me there. If anybody has any book ideas to read based on that or any thoughts on my idea please comment below; I’d love to hear from you!
